PRESS RELEASE

The University Club of U.W.A
Presents
Miles Carpenter's 11th solo show
"Mudes"
A sensual new series of paintings
30 July - 31 August 2007

Mudes by Miles Carpenter is a journey of deconstructing the iconic nude and melding it with its nemesis, abstraction. In search of a symbiance, a surreal environment unfolds. All the while experimenting with techniques that splash back here and there, distorting the evolutional trail of thought.
The paintings are bold yet subtle, sensual and allusive. The works begin quite rustic and textured then morph through a multitude of different effects, gradually allowing the abstract elements to dominate. Becoming more graphic and punchy, colour almost steals the show. The quest for a hybrid concludes with a simple crisp partial outline of the nude. Stripped bare like a breath of fresh air, it emerges defiant, resonating what lay before, while also opening a door to a new journey.
The work's main thrust as a series, is continuing the theme from his previous show, "1000 Lovers",
..."nude verses abstract, known verses unknown, the power of recognition up against the might of chaos, while ultimately exhibiting their common threads".
